Phoenix Ensemble

Phoenix Ensemble

Phoenix Ensemble is a professional chamber music collective founded by trumpeter and Artistic Director Alan Klaus. Bringing together outstanding musicians from Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond, the ensemble creates engaging concert experiences that combine artistic excellence with accessibility, collaboration, and meaningful audience connection.

Designed as a flexible ensemble whose instrumentation evolves with each project, Phoenix Ensemble explores a wide range of chamber music through innovative programming, new commissions, imaginative arrangements, and fresh interpretations of established repertoire. While each performance is shaped by the artists and music involved, every project shares a commitment to exceptional musicianship and creating memorable experiences for audiences.

The ensemble grew out of a series of successful collaborations, including Musical Harmony, Music @ Memorial, It Takes 5 to Tango, and now presenting our Firelight tour. These projects revealed a shared artistic vision among Newfoundland and Labrador's professional musicians and inspired the creation of a permanent artistic home for future performances, touring, recording, commissioning, and community engagement.

Phoenix Ensemble is committed to expanding access to professional chamber music throughout Newfoundland and Labrador while fostering meaningful artistic partnerships with performers, composers, presenters, and communities. Through performances, educational outreach, recordings, and new creative collaborations, the ensemble seeks to celebrate the power of live music to inspire curiosity, spark conversation, and bring people together.

FIRELIGHT

Firelight is Phoenix Ensemble's inaugural Newfoundland and Labrador tour, featuring Alan Klaus (trumpet), Serhii Tsymbal (trombone), and Daryna Holius (piano). Blending commissioned works, contemporary repertoire, and imaginative new arrangements, Firelight explores warmth, transformation, rhythm, and connection through music for trumpet, trombone, and piano. The program balances lyrical intimacy, virtuosic brilliance, and cinematic atmosphere, creating an engaging concert experience for both seasoned concertgoers and those discovering chamber music for the first time.

Developed alongside upcoming international performances in Prague and at the International Trombone Festival in Riga, Firelight reflects Phoenix Ensemble's commitment to bringing world-class chamber music to communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
